Dr. Randy Cross was born and raised in the Fort Lauderdale area, and it’s still home today. He lives there with his wife and kids and continues to enjoy everything that makes South Florida special—its diversity, its energy, and the strong sense of community that runs through it.

He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Central Florida and Florida Atlantic University, where his passion for public service took shape. While finishing graduate school, he landed his first government job as the Recycling Coordinator for the City of Deerfield Beach. From there, he joined the City of Miramar as a graduate intern—just a temporary role at first—but it turned into a 23-year career filled with growth, learning, and leadership.

Randy spent his first decade in Miramar’s Police Department, where he broke new ground as the first civilian to become a Bureau Commander. He managed the department’s administrative and budget operations and gained a deep appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that keeps public safety running. Over time, he moved into senior leadership at City Hall, serving as Procurement Director, Human Resources Director, and eventually Chief Operations Officer/Assistant City Manager. Each step gave him a broader view of how local government works—and how strong leadership can truly make a difference.

Outside of City Hall, Randy has always enjoyed working in education. Since 2007, he’s been an adjunct professor at Barry University, teaching courses in public administration, criminal justice, emergency management, and business. He’s also helped with research and grant writing projects, and while teaching, he completed a doctorate in education focused on leadership, organizational behavior, and industrial psychology.

With more than 25 years of experience in local government and higher education, Randy brings a practical, real-world approach to helping organizations grow stronger. Whether it’s through consulting, teaching, or coaching, he’s committed to helping leaders tackle challenges, improve systems, and create lasting impact in their communities.
